The mission of the Cataloguing Division is to provide bibliographic access to materials and resources in support of the research and instructional programmes of the University. Access to materials in the libraries collections is available to library users through the online catalogue, KRISALIS.
A lot of work goes on behind the scenes in any library to catalogue books, audiovisual materials, cds, etc, and to create a library catalogue that keeps everything organised. The Library of Congress and Superintendent of Documents Classification Schemes are the primary classification tools to organise and classify materials. Subject analysis and organisation of all formats is accomplished using the Library of Congress Subject Headings, the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, and Cataloging Internet Resources Handbook. These and many other tools are used to promote consistency throughout the online catalogue and the library's collections. The people who make these things happen are the Technical Processing Division Staff.
What We Do
Materials are maintained and processed for the library collections by some of the following functions:
-Catalogue newly acquired materials quickly, efficiently and accurately
-Physically process materials quickly, efficiently and accurately
-Maintain a current knowledge of cataloguing standards and sources
-Periodically review and update cataloguing procedures and policies
-Work with library staff, campus community, and other libraries to respond to needs of all users
-Continue to contribute accurate holdings in KIK (Katalog InduK Kebangsaan) for national and international access to library materials
-Continue to maintain the integrity of the online catalogue, KRISALIS to facilitate searching and retrieval of materials
An online catalogue is, after all, just a big database, with many indexes that let you locate materials by author, title, subject, keyword, series, material type, publication, or call number. The usefulness of the catalogue depends very much on the reliability and consistency of the data in its records. If you find an error or have a question about the online catalogue, KRISALIS contact Technical Processing Staff.
Your efforts in identifying and reporting needed corrections help maintain the quality and integrity of the KRISALIS
