OPEN DATA
Open data refers to the idea that data should be freely available to everyone, without any restrictions or limitations on use or reuse. Open data is a critical component of open science, which emphasizes the sharing of scientific information and knowledge to accelerate scientific progress and improve scientific collaboration.
Open data repositories are online platforms that allow researchers and other users to store, share, and access open data. These repositories often have specific focuses or themes, such as genetics, environmental science, or social sciences, and provide a searchable database of open data that can be used for research, analysis, and other purposes.
In open science, the sharing of open data and the use of open data repositories is essential for promoting transparency, reproducibility, and collaboration in scientific research. By making research data freely available, researchers can increase the impact of their work, foster new collaborations, and enable new discoveries that would otherwise be impossible. Additionally, open data repositories can help address issues such as data hoarding, data loss, and data fragmentation, which can all impede scientific progress.
OPEN DATA REPOSITORY
Data repository is a collection of accessible data sets. Open repositories, often hosted at research institutions, allow researchers to describe their data and make datasets accessible. By going through this process, the time and money spent on data collection is preserved, and the data is prepared for use in future studies. The demand for open data deposit are increasing. These are examples of open data repositories, which are widely used among researchers.
Opendata.usm.my is a website that provides open data resources related to Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The website serves as a repository for research data and metadata, and provides access to a wide range of data sets in various formats, including spreadsheets, text files, images, and audiovisual files and etc. The website is designed to promote open data practices and encourage the sharing and reuse of research data. The data sets available on the website cover a variety of research areas, including health, environment, social sciences, engineering, and natural sciences, among others.
Repository@USM is an online storage system that's capable to increase the interoperability, accessibility, and visibility of scholarly materials. It has worked together with multiple index systems as well as search engine systems, especially Google. It has a variety of electronic scholarly materials such as articles from Open Access journals, academic magazines, books, thesis, examination papers, research reports, photographs, and others. It provides free access around the world and can be used freely for research and learning.
