Borrowing eligibility is determined according to the patron category. Below is the table for the categories.

RETURNING of the materials can be done at the Selfcheck Machine or by using the book drop.

The USM Library offers an interlibrary loan service exclusively for full-time students and staff. This service allows users to request and borrow materials that are not available in the USM Library’s collection from other participating libraries, including public university libraries, the National Library of Malaysia, and selected private higher education institution libraries.

Users may borrow up to two (2) books at a time from other institutions, with a loan period of two (2) weeks.

Every lecturer in the university community is welcome to suggest the purchase of library resources.

Users may renew borrowed items either online through their library account or in person at the Circulation Counter. Online renewals are allowed up to two (2) times only. After the second renewal, the item must be returned to the Circulation Counter and may be reborrowed, subject to availability.

Please note:

• Renewal is not allowed if the item has been reserved by another user.
• Each item can only be renewed up to two (2) times.
• All online renewals must be completed before the due date.

This collection is specially provided for Distance Education students. Loan requests can be fulfilled via postal delivery; however, all postage costs must be borne by the requester. Photocopying services are also available at RM0.10 per page, in addition to applicable postage charges.

Note: Payment for postage must be made online to Universiti Sains Malaysia before accessing the above services.

However, PJJ students may also access and borrow books from the Regional Centres (Pusat Wilayah). Below is the list of Regional Centres:

• Kota Bharu – Perpustakaan Hamdan Tahir, USM
• Kuching – Kolej Datu Patinggi Abang Haji Abdullah
• Kota Kinabalu – Maktab Sabah
• Johor Bahru – Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Kota Puteri 2
• Kuala Lumpur – Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor

Borrowing privileges will be suspended as soon as you are charged RM10.00 and above in your library account. Privileges will be restored when outstanding charges are paid. ♦ Overdue fines will be applied for items returned after the due date. Here below are the fines charged table for borrowers.
