Printed Book and Ebook Purchasing Suggestion

The library has a responsibility to ensure a quality, balanced collection of information resources that is delivered to customers are effectively executed. There are various sources of information that can be suggested to purchase and subscribe such as books, databases, electronic journals and media materials. However, there are policies and procedures for purchasing the books.
1. Each main campus and branch library has its own responsibility for its respective schools and research centers for buying books.
i. 33 schools and research centers in Main Campus Pulau Pinang.
ii. Cover also for Advanced Medical & Dental Institute (AMDI)
i. 3 schools and research centers in Health Campus, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan
i. 9 schools and research centers in Engineering Campus, Nibong Tebal, Pulau Pinang
2. The selection of buying books is executing by the academic staff, librarians and administrative staff and have to follow specific criteria;
i. A book that provides information about an academic course for the purpose of references for course work and exams
i. This resource includes materials containing new discoveries, data, scientific study results and other information for research
i. The resources selected for this stage are all relevant resources with the subject of the special collection, for example the Malaysiana Collection and Archives.
i. This collection is defining a specific subject and providing summaries of specific knowledge. The collection covers in books such as encyclopedias, dictionaries and bibliographies.
3. Academic staff, librarians and administrative staff can suggest as many book titles as possible. However, every proposal for book titles needs the approval of the Information Resource Procurement Evaluation Committee, the University Procurement Board and the Price Negotiation Committee.

4. Please proceed to suggest through online system. Click here. Login with identity. Go to left widget and click “your purchase suggestions”. Click “New Purchase Suggestion” if you are first time user. Fill out the form and submit a purchase suggestion.
